Career Opportunities in the Conflict Resolution Field
The profession of mediation and the entire field of conflict management is developing rapidly; opportunities are expanding in such areas as labour relations, land use negotiation, organizational disputes, family mediation and various sectors in the field of commercial disputes.
Many of the institute’s learners do not plan to pursue a career in Conflict Management, but are learning or upgrading skills to enhance their personal and professional lives.
Individuals enrolled in a Certificate Program with the institute, or who are looking to work in the Conflict Resolution field, should be aware of the following:
- While building a full-time practice it is common for the developing practitioner to have alternative sources of income;
- Although anyone can call him/herself a mediator, voluntary professional accreditations are available which require training and experience, and which have set standards to enhance public confidence;
- The court system continues to expand the use of mandated mediation. Professional accreditation is required to be eligible to mediate these cases.
