The Institute is fortunate to have the following distinguished professionals as special advisors for our program.
Yvonne Martin
Ph.D.
Dr. Yvonne Martin is a professor of leadership studies in the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria where she has taught since 1978. For over a decade she has taught and conducted research in education law and policy, and has made significant contributions in interpreting the law for the field. Over the years she has supervised a large number of graduate students and has conducted numerous workshops, seminars, and conferences across the province on issues related to school administration and the law. Dr. Martin was born and educated in Jamaica, West Indies. She received her Ph.D. from McGill University where she also taught as an Assistant professor before moving to the University of Victoria.
Elinor Powell
M.D., Cert. Med.
Dr. Elinor Powell formal training was as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine. She obtained her Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute in 1988. She has trained many groups in conflict resolution, including physicians and church members. She served as Board Chairperson of the SIDRC from 1991-1996. Elinor was the original developer of the curriculum and the trainer for the Compass Program. Her book, The Heart of Conflict: A Spirituality of Transformation, published in 2003, has been widely acclaimed. Please visit her website.
