Sylvia McMechan is an educator and private practitioner, with over three decades of experience as a conflict specialist. She has degrees in three disciplines: conflict resolution, environment and resource studies, and community development. An advocate for collaborative processes, Sylvia is a facilitator of complex multi-party dialogues, an organizational conflict analyst, a mediator of interpersonal disputes, and a coach for individuals experiencing unique challenges. In her educational role, she teaches courses for Canadian and American universities and convenes workshops in public and private sector settings, sometimes internationally. Sylvia began her career in the conflict field as the first program officer for the Fund for Dispute Resolution, and later became the executive director of Canada’s Network for Conflict Resolution. After that, she was the first core professor in the Peace and Conflict Studies master’s program at Royal Roads University. In 2000, she co-founded Diamond Management Consulting, Inc., where she continues as one of two principals. Informed by her Quaker origins and orientation, Sylvia’s professional purpose is to facilitate learning and inspire uncommon creativity.
